semaglutide (Wegovy®) is accepted for use within NHSScotland.

Indication under review: As an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, or non-fatal stroke) in adults with established cardiovascular disease and either obesity or overweight (BMI ≥27 kg/m2).

In a phase III study, in which both groups received standard of care, semaglutide significantly reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events compared with placebo in overweight or obese patients with established cardiovascular diease.

This advice applies only in the context of approved NHSScotland Patient Access Scheme (PAS) arrangements delivering the cost-effectiveness results upon which the decision was based, or PAS/ list prices that are equivalent or lower.
